New Delhi: At a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed that Kamala Harris, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate, would be easier to beat in the 2024 presidential election than President Joe Biden. Despite some polls showing Harris leading in the race, Trump characterized her as “radical” and a “lunatic.”

During his speech, Trump argued that Harris’s previous stance on banning fracking, an issue critical to Pennsylvania’s economy, would hurt her in the election. Although Harris’s campaign has softened this stance, Trump emphasized it to paint her as extreme. “I believe she will be easier to beat than him,” he remarked.

Trump also launched personal attacks on Harris, questioning her temperament and commenting on her laughter. “Have you heard her laugh? That’s the laugh of a crazy person,” he said, while expressing dissatisfaction with Harris’s recent cover appearance on Time magazine. In a lengthy and often meandering speech, Trump reiterated his debunked claims that the 2020 election was stolen. He also dismissed the threat of climate change and defended his proposal for tariffs on foreign goods, despite economic experts warning that such tariffs could burden U.S. consumers.

Trump’s appearance in Pennsylvania is part of his strategy to secure votes in this critical swing state, which holds 19 electoral votes. With Harris taking over the Democratic campaign after Biden withdrew from the race, the state has become a key battleground. Recent polls show Harris leading Trump by a narrow margin, further intensifying the race. As both campaigns ramp up spending in Pennsylvania, Harris is set to conduct a bus tour in the state starting Sunday, while Trump will continue his outreach in York, Pennsylvania, on Monday.
