Despite being the richest individual globally, Elon Musk maintains a surprisingly minimalistic lifestyle. Known for his groundbreaking work in technology and space exploration, Musk’s personal life reflects a stark contrast to his immense wealth. He prioritizes cutting back on sleep, meals, and leisure activities, showcasing a unique approach to living simply.

Mother's insight into Musk's accommodations

Maye Musk, Elon’s mother, recently shared insights into her son’s unpretentious lifestyle during an interview with The Times UK. Despite his substantial fortune, Musk’s approach to hosting guests is notably modest. Maye Musk revealed that during her visits to Elon’s SpaceX facility in Texas, she often sleeps in the garage. “I have to sleep in the garage,” she said, explaining that a luxurious home would be impractical near a rocket site. She humorously added, “You can’t have a fancy house near a rocket site.”

In a 2023 post on X, Maye Musk detailed her experiences staying with Elon, where she frequently ends up sleeping on mattresses, blankets, or even the garage floor. She noted that her other children, Tosca and Kimball, also endure similar arrangements, often opting for floor accommodations. “We adapt. It’s still better than sleeping on the ground in the Kalahari Desert with lions or hyenas nearby, which I did as a child,” she remarked.

Views on space missions

Maye Musk also addressed her reservations about Mars missions, stating that the extended preparation and isolation required for such endeavors do not appeal to her. However, she expressed willingness to participate if her children desired it.

Elon Musk’s commitment to simplicity is evident from his 2022 TED Talk, where he disclosed, “I don’t even own a place right now; I’m literally staying at friends’ places.” He had previously sold his grand homes and now resides in a modest two-bedroom modular home near SpaceX’s Texas site, valued around $50,000. Recent rumors suggest he may have acquired a larger family home.
