Renowned billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk took to social media to express his concerns about the economic implications of illegal immigration in the United States. In a series of posts on X, Musk highlighted various services and benefits that he believes are accessible to illegal immigrants, underscoring their perceived impact on the housing affordability crisis.

Musk pointed out that illegal immigrants in America can access bank loans, mortgages, insurance, driver's licenses, free healthcare (in California and New York), and in-state college tuition. He questioned the rationale of citizenship when undocumented individuals enjoy benefits without contributing taxes or participating in jury duty. The Tesla chief argued that this situation is a significant contributor to the soaring housing prices in the country.

The US real estate market is grappling with challenges, with housing prices reaching record highs and mortgage rates near two-decade highs due to the Federal Reserve's efforts against inflation. The affordability crisis is affecting both homebuyers and renters, with an unprecedented 22.4 million American renters considered "cost burdened" in 2022, according to Harvard's Joint Center for Housing Studies.

Born in South Africa, Musk became a US citizen after moving to Canada at the age of 18. He clarified that his stance is not against immigration but rather emphasizes the need for a controlled and vetted process to prevent an overwhelming influx of people into the United States.

In a separate post, Musk's mother, Maye Musk, shared her struggles in obtaining US citizenship, revealing that it took her 12 years to achieve this status despite having familial ties to the country. Elon Musk acknowledged the difficulties faced by his mother and recounted his own lengthy journey to obtain US citizenship.

The discussion on immigration in the United States remains a complex and contentious issue. Musk's perspective, shared on social media, adds to the ongoing debate surrounding the Biden administration's approach to immigration policies. As the discourse continues, policymakers are faced with the challenge of striking a balance between addressing economic concerns, ensuring national security, and upholding humanitarian values.
