ED Strikes in Bengaluru: Raids Target George Soros’ Open Society Foundations’ Affiliates

The operation marks a significant escalation in India’s scrutiny of the billionaire philanthropist’s network, raising questions about its activities and influence in the country

ED Conducts Searches Against OSF : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted raids in Bengaluru against US billionaire George Soros-backed OSF and its linked entities as part of its FEMA probe. The ED on Tuesday conducted searches at the premises of American George Soros-backed Open Society Foundation (OSF) and some linked entities. The premises of OSF and some international human rights organisations are being searched under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), official sources said.


Matter related to FEMA and FDI
He said the case relates to alleged foreign direct investment (FDI) received by OSF and the use of this fund by some beneficiaries in violation of FEMA guidelines. OSF could not be immediately contacted for comment on the ED action.

Soros, a Hungarian-American political activist, and his organisations such as OSF have been accused by the ruling BJP of working against India's interests. His statements during the Adani-Hindenburg controversy were also criticised by the party. OSF started operations in India in 1999.
