Ebril Air Strikes: In a recent development, Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed to have targeted an alleged Israeli "spy headquarters" in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region. The attack resulted in four civilians killed and six injured, prompting Iraq to recall its ambassador from Tehran, denouncing the strikes as a "blatant violation" of sovereignty.
The Revolutionary Guards stated that the missile strikes were a response to what they referred to as "evil acts of the Zionist regime," citing recent incidents involving the martyrdom of Revolutionary Guards and resistance commanders. Alongside the strike in Iraq, the Guards also claimed to have carried out missile strikes on "terrorist bases" in Syria, responding to a suicide bombing in Iran attributed to the Islamic State (IS) group.

The missile strikes in Iraq targeted civilian-populated areas of Irbil, resulting in casualties and significant damage to residential buildings. Kurdish counter-terrorism forces reported shooting down three armed drones over Irbil's airport, where US and international forces are stationed.
The Kurdistan Region Security Council rejected Iran's claims, stating that the missile strikes were based on "unfounded pretexts," and accused the Revolutionary Guards of using baseless reasons for assaulting Irbil without posing any threat.
In response to the attacks, Iraq's government condemned Iran's "aggression" on Irbil, with plans to file a complaint to the UN Security Council. The US White House National Security Council spokesperson emphasised the need for a principled position against such violations and affirmed support for Iraq's sovereignty.
In a statement condemning the Iran's attack on Ebril the Washington released a statement that read, "The United States strongly condemns Iran’s attacks in Erbil today and offers condolences to the families of those who were killed. We oppose Iran’s reckless missile strikes, which undermine Iraq’s stability. We support the Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government’s efforts to meet the aspirations of the Iraqi people."
The UN mission in Iraq called for an end to attacks violating Iraqi sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging dialogue to address security concerns. Iran's foreign ministry, while asserting respect for sovereignty, cited its "legitimate and legal right" to deter national security threats.
The missile strikes further escalate tensions in the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Palestinian group Hamas. While Iran has declared a reluctance to engage in a wider conflict, various groups within its "Axis of Resistance" continue to carry out attacks on Israel and its allies.
The situation remains complex, with regional actors involved in cross-border engagements and diplomatic maneuvers. The international community closely monitors the evolving dynamics in the region, emphasisng the importance of diplomatic resolutions to prevent further escalation.
