New Delhi: In a surprising turn of events, India has officially restarted e-visa services for Canadian nationals, marking a positive shift in diplomatic relations. The decision comes after a period of suspension earlier this year, with both countries navigating tensions stemming from allegations made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

India's e-visa services back in action

After a temporary suspension of visa services to Canadian nationals in September, India has now resumed its e-visa services. The initial halt, attributed to operational reasons by the Indian Mission in Canada, has been reversed, bringing relief to Canadian travelers seeking entry to India.

BLS International Services Limited, a prominent Indian outsourcing service provider, manages a range of essential services, including visas, passports, consular services, attestation, and citizen services. The company's role in handling diplomatic affairs plays a crucial part in facilitating smooth interactions between nations.

Four categories resumed

In a notable move, India has decided to reinstate visa services for four specific categories in Canada. Entry visas, business visas, medical visas, and conference visas are now accessible to Canadian applicants, effective from October 26. The decision followed a comprehensive review of the security situation, taking recent Canadian measures into consideration.

Treading through a diplomatic standoff

Diplomatic tensions arose earlier when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused "agents of the Indian government" of involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This led to India suspending visa services until "further notice." The recent resumption of services signals a thaw in relations and a step towards normalizing diplomatic ties.

Canada's response

Canada has welcomed India's decision to partially resume visa services, acknowledging it as a positive development. Canadian authorities expressed that the suspension "should never have happened in the first place," according to reports by Canada-based CTV News. The move suggests a mutual interest in moving past the diplomatic strains of the recent past.
