In a bold statement, former US President Donald Trump suggested that Israel should prioritize targeting Iran's nuclear facilities in response to the Islamic Republic's recent missile barrage. His comments come as tensions escalate between Israel and Iran, with fears of broader conflict growing in the Middle East.

Trump criticizes Biden’s stance

Trump's remarks were aimed at President Joe Biden's response to a question about Israel's potential reaction to Iran’s missile attacks. Biden had downplayed the likelihood of an all-out war, stating that military escalation in the region should be avoided. "How confident are you it’s not going to rain?" Biden had said, emphasizing his belief that full-scale war could be prevented.

However, Trump disagreed, criticizing Biden for not encouraging Israel to strike Iran's nuclear capabilities first. "They asked him, what do you think about Iran? Would you hit Iran? And he goes, 'As long as they don’t hit the nuclear stuff.' That’s the thing you want to hit, right?" Trump argued. "Isn’t that what you’re supposed to hit? I mean, it’s the biggest risk we have, nuclear weapons."

"Worry about everything else later"

Trump, who is the Republican frontrunner for the upcoming US presidential elections, emphasized that Israel should take immediate action against Iran’s nuclear sites, suggesting that other concerns could be dealt with afterward. "If they’re going to do it, they’re going to do it. But we’ll find out whatever their plans are," he added.

Ayatollah Khamenei defends Iran's actions

The former president’s comments came a day after Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, defended the recent missile attacks on Israel. In his first Friday sermon in five years, Khamenei called the strikes "legal and legitimate," claiming they were a justified response to Israel’s actions. He further argued that every attack on Israel is a "service to the region and all humanity."

This rhetoric, combined with increasing military activity, has heightened concerns that the long-standing conflict between Israel and Iran could spiral into a broader confrontation.
