A grand jury in Manhattan decided to indict former US president Donald Trump for his part in paying hush money to a porn star, and he raised more than USD 4 million in just 24 hours, according to a press release. Notably, over 25 percent of donations to the Trump Campaign came from first-time donors, confirming his position as the undisputed front-runner in the Republican primary. “This unprecedented surge of grassroots contributions demonstrates that the American people regard the indictment of President Trump as a disgusting weaponization of our judicial system by a Soros-funded prosecutor,” the campaign claimed.

According to the official statement, the donations have been made to the Donald Trump campaign from across 50 states within just five hours. Donald Trump, who is the former US President will now face criminal charges and will be presented in court on Tuesday. The indictment remains unclear as it is still under seal how many criminal counts have been committed by him so far. 

Donald Trump, on Thursday, was indicted by a grand jury for his part in paying porn star Stormy Daniels money to keep quiet about an alleged affair. The Trump campaign on Thursday sent out a fundraising email asking for donations for the campaign just minutes after Trump was indicted. However, the White House has refused to comment on the indictment of the former US president in the incident. 

President Joe Biden said, “I have no comment on that.” While Vice President Kamala Harris said, “I am not going to comment on the ongoing criminal case as it relates to the former US president.”

Notably, Donald Trump is currently the front-runner among all the declared and potential contenders in the race for the White House. Donald Trump has served as the president of the country from 2017 to 2021, although he has denied all the wrongdoings in connection with the payments made before the 2016 elections. As per reports, Trump has been impeached by the House of Representatives twice and was acquitted by the Senate both times. 

It is said that there is nothing in US law which can save a person who is found guilty of any crime, even from prison. It is for the first time in the history of the United States that a former president is criminally charged. The indictment was filed under the sealed cover and the charges are not yet made public, according to information.

Trump to be arraigned in Manhattan on April 4

According to the information, former US president Donal Trump will be arraigned in the court of Manhattan on Tuesday, April 4 at around 2.15 pm local time, following his indictment on Thursday. The sources said that the footfall in the courthouse will be restricted till adjournments of all the matters due to security reasons. Meanwhile, in a statement by the Attorney of Donald Trump, “Former president will voluntarily surrender to New York law enforcement and plans to file substantial legal challenges.”

During his indictment from Manhattan grand jury on Thursday, Trump faces more than 30 counts related to business fraud.

Although, Donald Trump has repeatedly denied all the charges against him and stressed that probing agencies in the case were making politically motivated accusations. According to the law, the arrest warrant is typically issued automatically after the indictment is filed against the defendant who has never been charged in any criminal case in the past. 

Trump may surrender next week

The latest reports said that Donald Trump may surrender next week. The secretive services will coordinate with the authorities in New York while the legal team of Donald Trump will take care of his security needs and transportation. If Trump is convicted in the case, he will not be disqualified from the presidential run for the upcoming 2024 elections.
