Former President Donald Trump has intensified his race-based attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris, focusing on her Indian heritage. A day after questioning her racial identity, asking, "Is she Indian or is she Black?" Trump has drawn widespread condemnation.

The White House and various political figures have criticized Trump for these divisive remarks, emphasizing that such rhetoric is harmful and unacceptable. Vice President Harris, who is of both Indian and Jamaican descent, has previously faced similar attacks but has consistently highlighted the importance of her diverse background in her role.

Trump praises Kamala’s photo

A day after claiming that Kamala Harris had "all of a sudden" decided to identify as "a Black person," Donald Trump posted a photo on his social media site, Truth Social. The picture shows Harris in a sari with her family. Trump expressed appreciation for Harris's affection and respect for her Indian heritage. He wrote, "Thank you, Kamala, for the lovely picture you sent from years ago! Your warmth, friendship, and love for your Indian heritage are greatly appreciated."

Meanwhile, it is important to note that ethnic identity of Harris has become a prominent issue in the US presidential election campaign, especially after Donald Trump’s personal attack. According to CNN, Trump criticized Harris by alleging that, despite her "Indian heritage" for years, she "turned black" recently. He further claimed that she "suddenly" changed her identity to be recognized as a woman of color.

The racial remark from Trump came during an event with journalists in Chicago, where he was asked why voters of color should support him given his history of racist attacks on political rivals.

Responding to the controversial remarks, Kamala Harris lashed out at Trump saying that country faces two different visions and alleged that Trump and his party aims to take the country ‘backward.’
