BRICS Summit Modi peace diplomacy: At the 16th BRICS Summit, held in Kazan, Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to peace, diplomacy, and dialogue. Speaking on the global stage, PM Modi emphasized the necessity for BRICS nations to unite against common threats like terrorism and to work towards reforming global institutions such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). "BRICS is not a divisive group but a public interest platform," Modi declared, positioning the bloc as a catalyst for positive global change.

Condemning terrorism and advocating for UNSC reform

During the summit, Modi identified terrorism as the greatest danger facing the world today, calling for an unequivocal stance from BRICS nations. "There is no place for double standards on terrorism," he asserted. Modi urged the group to take firm steps to combat terror financing and radicalization, emphasizing the need for a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism within the UN framework.

India’s support for diplomatic solutions

Touching upon the conflicts in Ukraine, Israel, and Gaza, Modi expressed India’s unwavering belief in peaceful solutions. "We support dialogue and diplomacy, not war," he stated, encouraging BRICS nations to cooperate in creating a safe and prosperous future. He highlighted that just as BRICS nations united to overcome the challenges posed by COVID-19, they have the potential to foster peace and security worldwide.

Welcoming new BRICS members

In his address, PM Modi warmly welcomed new BRICS members, acknowledging the organization's expansion. "India welcomes all new members and partners of the BRICS family," he said, adding that decisions should be made unanimously and with respect to the founding members’ views.

Addressing global challenges

Prime Minister Modi underscored the need for BRICS to address pressing global issues such as inflation, food and energy security, climate change, and cyber threats. He also highlighted the challenges of technological advances, such as cyber security and disinformation, stressing that BRICS should offer solutions to these emerging threats.

India's vision for global institution reform

Modi reiterated India's stance on reforming global institutions, including the UNSC, WTO, and Multilateral Development Banks. He argued that BRICS should position itself as a voice for reform rather than a force seeking to replace existing institutions. "We should present ourselves as an organization that evolves with time, promoting reform in global institutions," Modi concluded.
