Tibet: The magnitude 6.8 earthquake shook the foothills of the Himalayas. Epicenter: roughly 80 kilometers, or 50 miles, north of Mount Everest the world's loftiest peak. At least 95 people died in the quake, which has destroyed some houses and shops as it struck in the region around one of Tibet's holiest cities.

Eyewitness Video Captures Scene Of Destruction

A video captured by an eyewitness and published by Reuters, showing extensive damage, is seen as debris strewn along the roads. Debris on roads blocks ways for travelers. Destruction was so bad in view that, really, that kind of effect cannot be well translated into deathly loss, too.

Tremors Were Felt in Many Places of Tibet

However, the most severe jolts were in the Tibet region, where the earthquakes sent shock waves across the entire neighboring countries. This made buildings shake up and down in Nepal and Bhutan, as well as parts of India, causing extreme terror of further destructive damage and body counts. Swept through by the residents dwelling in these provinces and at the depth of 10 km, or 6.2 miles, in Tingri County, no one had foreseen such a tremendous catastrophe at that epicenter with this earthquake.

Message from the Dalai Lama

The accident seriously shocked the enormously respected Dalai Lama, the religious leader of Tibet. The Dalai Lama showed condolence for the tragedy and joined hands with his wishes for the souls of the dead and good luck for the recovery of those injured well in time. At a time like this, perhaps the comforting words bring back the bright hope of being punched by the misfortune.
