It is being reported that Karachi Police has suggested the Karachi Commissioner to impose Section 144 in the city's southern district in light of the law and order situation in the city.
The suggestion was made by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Karachi South Zone) Syed Asad Raza to the commissioner, Dawn newspaper reported. Baloch human rights activists Dr. Mehrang Baloch and Bayberg Baloch have been taken into custody in Pakistan. The Baloch Yaqzehti Committee had organized a protest against his "illegal detention" and that of many others at the Karachi Press Club on March 24. Karachi police are afraid of this.
The notification also stated that in light of the present law and order situation, it is necessary that necessary measures are taken to protect the participants in the protest, the public and the integrity of the event. Therefore, it is requested that any type of protest, demonstration, dharna-rally and assembly of more than five persons within the limits of the South Zone be banned under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure between 24 and 31 March, 2025.
