New Delhi: Recently a raid was conducted by military police on Monday at the Sde Teiman detention center, where Palestinian detainees are being held. The operation resulted in the detention of nine Israeli soldiers from the Force 100 unit, who are suspected of committing severe sexual torture and gang rape against detainees. One additional suspect remains at large. The Force 100 unit has been assigned to provide security at the detention center.

According to reports, the detention of the Israeli soldiers is linked to the recent transfer of a Palestinian prisoner to the Soroka Medical Facility in Beersheba, who was admitted with severe genital injuries.

Clash at Sde Teiman

A fight erupted when military police attempted to detain soldiers at Sde Teiman. However, the MPs gained control. However, the situation escalated when a group of right-wing protesters including Likud and Religious Zionist lawmakers tried to force their way into the facility, eventually breaching the military barriers and clashing with MPs.

The protesters who voiced support for torture and even called for the extrajudicial execution of Palestinian detainees, managed to reach the area where the detainees are held. A soldier described the scene as chaotic, with no clear authority in charge.

After breaching the Sde Teiman facility, the right-wing mob, which included lawmakers, then tried to storm the Beit Lid military base, where the nine detained soldiers were held for questioning but were prevented in their attempt.

Military advocate general orders detentions

An Israeli military spokesman said, “Following suspicions of serious abuse of a detainee held at the Sde Teiman detention facility, the Military Police opened an investigation at the behest of the Military Prosecutor’s Office.”

Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, Israel's military advocate general, issued the order for the detentions. Following the right-wing mob's attack, the Israeli military clarified that the soldiers were not under arrest, but rather being held for questioning.

PM calls for calm

Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu didn’t say anything for three hours after his extremist allies tried to storm the base, then called for calm. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant issued a communique in support of the troops and rejected the assault on the military base.
