New Delhi: Airline seat preferences can be surprisingly subjective, with individual tastes varying widely among travelers. To shed light on this, Upgrade Points surveyed US travelers, as reported by the New York Post. The survey aimed to uncover the most coveted seats and common grievances among flyers.

By polling 3,142 US travelers over a week in June, the experts gathered valuable insights into seat preferences. Participants were presented with a Boeing 737-800 seat map and asked to choose their ideal seat location, revealing intriguing patterns and trends.

Perks of first-class

The survey's top pick was seat 1A, a first-class bulkhead window seat, which came with no surprise considering its luxurious amenities. As Upgraded Points noted, this coveted spot boasts an enviable combination of benefits, including generous legroom, convenient access to restrooms, a stunning window view and the privilege of being among the first to board and disembark the plane.

Strategies for seat selection

Seats 7A and 7F in coach class offer generous legroom, making them a top pick for parents with small kids. These bulkhead seats provide extra space, easy bin access and less foot traffic, creating a calmer environment. Seats 1F and 7C ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, while exit row seats 4F and 20A followed in sixth and seventh. Upgrade Points attributed this to the added legroom, potential for empty adjacent seats and proximity to a quick exit with 41% of respondents willing to accept the responsibility for these benefits.
