Tensions between China and Taiwan have been escalating in recent years, with China repeatedly asserting its claims over Taiwan and Taiwan's government asserting its sovereignty. China's warning of military action until complete reunification is a stark reminder of the ongoing tensions in the region.

According to one of the recent updates, China on Friday warned Taiwan of a potential war, saying its military activities around the island will continue until the complete unification with the mainland.

After two days of military drills outside Taiwan, China has finished simulating the capture of the island and strikes on strategic areas. The drills took place a few days after Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te assumed office.

Meanwhile, it is to be noted that China is dedicated to Taiwan's reunion with the mainland and views the self-governing island as a breakaway province. However, it hasn't disqualified the use of force to bring about this kind of reunion.

US coordinates closely with Taiwan

The United States department on Saturday said that it was closely monitoring the situation, after China launched military drills for two days in the Taiwan Strait and surrounding areas. After coordinating with the island nation, it expressed confidence in its current force posture and operations in the region to ensure peace and stability, reported Focus Taiwan.

In addition to this, in an email response to CNA, a State Department spokesperson expressed worries over reports of China's People Liberation Army's (PLA) joint military exercises in the Taiwan Strait and around its vicinity.

The spokesperson further asserted that the US is confident in its current force posture and operations in the region and will ensure peace and stability and meet its national security commitments.

It should be noted that such statements increase the risk of conflict and underline the importance of diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue peacefully.
