As tensions in the US-China trade war escalate, Beijing declared on Wednesday it will levy tariffs ranging up to 84 percent on US goods beginning Thursday, a sharp hike from the originally announced 34 per cent.

China will impose a broad range of US goods with tariffs of 84 per cent from Thursday, a drastic increase from the already announced 34 per cent, the nation's finance ministry stated in a release on Wednesday.

New tariffs imposed on 57 target countries

It is in direct response to President Donald Trump's whopping 104 per cent on Chinese imports to be imposed today. The new tariffs imposed on 57 target countries, territories and blocs are the rates of 20 per cent on the EU, 26 per cent on India and 49 per cent on Cambodia.
