International News: US President Donald Trump announced that US negotiators have left for Russia to discuss a possible ceasefire with Ukraine. This step was taken when Kiev agreed to a 30-day ceasefire. Trump described these talks as important towards ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict. During a meeting with the Prime Minister of Ireland at the White House, Trump said that people are going to Russia right now and it is expected that a permanent ceasefire will be negotiated in the coming days.
Vice President JD Vance also confirmed that US representatives will have phone and face-to-face talks with Russian officials in the coming days. However, Trump did not clarify when he would talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said that I hope he will agree to a ceasefire. Positive signals have been received from Moscow. Now it depends on Russia. Trump also expressed the possibility of imposing economic sanctions on Russia. He said that I can take such economic steps which will be very harmful for Russia, but I do not want this because my goal is to establish peace.
Trump's statement came at a time when two weeks ago there was a heated debate between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and American leaders in the White House. After this dispute, Trump stopped military aid to Ukraine, which increased pressure on Kiev. After this, Ukraine agreed to the 30-day ceasefire plan proposed by America in the talks held in Saudi Arabia.
After this initiative of Trump, all eyes are now on Russia's reaction. If the talks are successful, then this can prove to be a big step towards ending the Russia-Ukraine war. However, to what extent Russia will agree to this, it still remains uncertain.
