World News: In a surprising turn of events, a report from a Canadian commission has contradicted Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations regarding the involvement of Indian agents in the assassination of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The report, which spans 123 pages and is titled ‘Public Inquiry Into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions,’ concluded that there was “no definitive link” established with a “foreign state” concerning Nijjar's murder, as reported by PTI.

Allegations of Foreign Interference

The inquiry report also accused the Indian government of meddling in Canadian elections, a claim that India has vehemently denied. The Ministry of External Affairs responded by stating, “We have seen a report about alleged activities on purported interference. It is in fact Canada which has been consistently interfering in India's internal affairs. This has also created an environment for illegal migration and organized criminal activities. We reject the report's insinuations on India and expect that the support system enabling illegal migration will not be further countenanced.”

Strained Diplomatic Relations

The diplomatic relationship between India and Canada has deteriorated following Trudeau's accusations against India regarding Nijjar’s killing. Trudeau asserted that Canada possessed sufficient evidence to substantiate claims of Indian government agents' involvement in the assassination. In response, India dismissed these allegations as “absurd,” leading to significant diplomatic fallout.

This escalation resulted in the expulsion of diplomats from both nations. The report highlighted that six Indian diplomats were expelled from Canada in October 2024, which prompted India to reciprocate by expelling six Canadian diplomats and withdrawing its high commissioner.

As tensions continue to rise between India and Canada, the findings of this recent inquiry add a complex layer to an already fraught diplomatic situation. The implications of these allegations and counterclaims will likely influence future relations between the two countries.
