New Delhi: A significant attack on a Pakistan Navy camp in the central city of Balochistan’s Kech district unfolded last night as armed militants unleashed rocket launchers and automatic weapons, escalating tensions in the restive region.

Incident occurs at Turbat Airport premises

Local reports suggest that the incident took place within the Turbat Airport premises, where the Navy camp is situated. On Monday night, residents informed The Balochistan Post that heavy gunfire and explosions echoed through Turbat, sparking alarm. During the attack, Pakistani military units were observed mobilizing across the city.

Video of the attack posted online

Claiming responsibility for the attack was the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group advocating for Balochistan’s independence. The BLA shared a video of the assault on their official Telegram channel, ‘Hakkal’, which showed the militants launching rockets and grenades at the Navy camp while patrolling on foot.

In the video footage, BLA fighters, proudly displaying Balochistan's flag, were seen moving freely around Turbat city, underscoring their influence and reach within the area.

An earlier attack on Turbat airport occure in August 26

This latest assault follows another major attack on August 26 when the main military camp in Turbat was targeted with rocket and grenade launchers. That incident, too, was captured on video and published on the BLA’s channel. In the same period, the group released footage of its fighters establishing a blockade on the CPEC route near Turbat.

What is Operation Herof?

The BLA had previously declared the launch of “Operation Herof” on the nights of August 25 and 26. As part of this offensive, the separatist group blocked key highways across Balochistan, disrupted transportation by searching vehicles, and destroyed railway tracks and bridges. The BLA also claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a main military camp in Bela.

Multiple coordinated attacks were carried out under the banner of “Operation Herof,” leading to the temporary closure of all major roads connecting Balochistan to other provinces. After 20 hours of continuous assaults, the BLA announced the conclusion of their operation, asserting that they had killed 130 personnel, including members of Pakistan’s military forces, intelligence agencies, and police.

The recent wave of violence highlights the deteriorating security situation in Balochistan as insurgent groups intensify their activities. As the region grapples with ongoing unrest, the Baloch Liberation Army's recent operations have drawn attention to the complexities of the conflict and the challenges faced by the Pakistani government in maintaining control over the region.
