Kyle Bass, billionaire founder of hedge fund Hayman Capital Management, faced backlash online after complaining about an $85 breakfast bill at a New York City hotel. In a viral tweet, he blamed "terrible inflation" and tagged President Biden, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and the Federal Reserve.

"Terrible inflation milestone reached - my first $85 breakfast for one at a NYC hotel. After signing this bill, I have decided never again," Bass wrote, attaching a photo of his room service order for orange juice, a Diet Coke, waffles and bacon.

The post quickly amassed millions of views and comments criticizing his perspective as out of touch. Many pointed out that inflated room service prices, especially in luxury Manhattan hotels, long predate current economic conditions.

"I generally enjoy your posts, but complaining about inflation when ordering breakfast at a New York City hotel is a little bit much," one reply read. "You knew going in that it was going to be at least twice as much as breakfast anywhere else."

Another user commented, "Dude, it's room service in a Manhattan hotel. You know you're paying for the privilege of not going outside and finding a considerably less expensive food truck."

Several responses noted Bass could have paid a quarter of the price at a nearby McDonald's or diner. "You chose poorly," one person wrote.

While U.S. inflation recently hit a 40-year high, many found Bass' grievance over an exorbitant hotel bill to be out of touch during a cost-of-living crisis. The incident served as a reminder of the widening disconnect between the ultra-wealthy and average citizens struggling with rising prices.
