In a very significant development in the 2024 US presidential election and has sent shockwaves through the political landscape. The Colorado Supreme Court, in a 4-3 decision, ruled that Donald Trump is ineligible to hold the office of president under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, also known as the "insurrection clause."

Colorado election officials have said the matter needs to be settled by January 5, which is the statutory deadline to set the list of candidates for the GOP primary scheduled for March 5.

This is the first time a court has applied the 14th Amendment's insurrection clause to disqualify a presidential candidate.

Implications:

This ruling only applies to Colorado's 2024 presidential primary ballot, meaning Trump can still campaign in other states. However, it raises a major legal question about Trump's eligibility to run for president at all.

Trump is expected to appeal the decision to the US Supreme Court, which could make a final ruling on his candidacy for the entire nation. This decision could significantly impact the Republican primary race and the overall 2024 election dynamics.

Ramaswamy pledges to 'withdraw' from Colorado ballot over Trump removal

Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican running for president, has threatened to drop out of the Colorado GOP primary. This statement is in reaction to a recent decision made by the Colorado Supreme Court, which disqualified former President Donald Trump from office because of his role in the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021.

Sharing a video on his X handle, Ramaswamy can be heard saying, “I pledge to withdraw from the Colorado GOP primary ballot until Trump is also allowed to be on the ballot, and I demand that Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, and Nikki Haley do the same immediately - or else they are tacitly endorsing this illegal maneuver which will have disastrous consequences for our country.”

Colorado's top court dismissed Trump by invoking the "insurrection clause" of the 14th Amendment in a close 4-3 ruling.
The court came to the conclusion that Trump had engaged in rebellion by disseminating fraudulent allegations of election fraud and sending followers to the Capitol. Because of his involvement in the Capitol attack, Colorado has consequently become the first state to bar Trump from running for president, according to The Hill.
