Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Biden are all set to address a press conference today i.e. on Thursday, said the White House, calling it a “big deal.”

Grateful to have PM Modi: White House

Speaking to the media, White House’s national security spokesperson, John Kirby said, “We are just grateful that Prime Minister Modi is participating in a press event at the end of the visit. We think that’s important and we’re glad he thinks that’s important too.”

The format of the conference will include one-to-one questions from US and Indian journalists respectively, Kirby said.

Modi’s first press conference

Since 2014, when he came to power, PM Modi has not addressed any press conference. However, mostly, he has taken media questions in face-to-face interviews.

According to the media reports, US officials designate reporters beforehand from the American and foreign media for Biden and his guest to call upon, and a very and a very limited number of questions are permitted.

PM Modi’s state visit to the US

PM Modi’s state visit is beneficial for the Indo-US relations. On Wednesday, participates in International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations headquarters in New York and he flew to Washington.

In Washington, the prime minister attended an intimate dinner with US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. During the gathering, PM Modi gifted special gifts to the Bidens including a handcrafted Sandalwood box and a 7.5-carat green diamond.

As per the media reports, PM Modi will address a joint sitting of the US Congress this evening. Interestingly, this will be his second address to a joint sitting- a first for an Indian.
