New Delhi: About 35 rockets and missiles fired from Lebanon struck the city of Safed in northern Israel on Thursday evening, causing fires, power cuts and property damage. The Israeli military announced in a statement that "the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Aerial Defence Array successfully intercepted most of the launches."

According to the Fire and Rescue Authority, there were multiple fires that broke out and people who were not in the lifts since there was no power.
In response to Israeli attacks on the towns of Sohmor in eastern Lebanon and Nabatieh in southern Lebanon the day before, the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah claimed in a statement that it had launched Katyusha rockets against the Israeli air base in Safed, according to Xinhua news agency. The news agency was informed by military sources in Lebanon that Israeli Iron Dome missiles successfully intercepted a portion of the rockets.
The new Hezbollah attacks coincided with Israel's warning that it was "ready" to conduct a "full-scale" offensive against Hezbollah and increased tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border.
Israeli warplanes earlier in the day destroyed two Hezbollah operatives in the village of At Tiri and targeted a Hezbollah military facility in the southern Lebanese village of Ramyah, according to a second statement from the Israeli Defence Forces.
The same day, two Israeli attacks on Ramyah and Haddatha resulted in the deaths of three Hezbollah fighters and the wounding of a fourth, according to unidentified Lebanese military sources who spoke with Xinhua.
From October 8, 2023, tensions have been building along the border between Lebanon and Israel. This is because the day before, Hezbollah launched a rocket barrage against Israel in support of the surprise attack on southern Israel carried out by Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
