In a powerful moment at the Democratic National Convention, former President Barack Obama delivered a passionate endorsement of Kamala Harris, urging Americans to vote for her in the upcoming election. Obama expressed optimism about Harris's potential to lead, saying, "I'm feeling hopeful because Kamala is ready to step into the White House."

‘Yes, She Can’: A Rallying Cry for Change

As Obama addressed the convention, the crowd erupted in chants of "Yes, she can," signaling their support for Harris. Obama highlighted the transformative potential of a Harris-Walz administration, stating, "A Harris-Walz administration can help us move past some of the tired old debates that keep stifling progress. At their core, Kamala and Tim understand that when everybody gets a fair shot, we are all better off. When women are paid the same as men for doing the same job, all families benefit."

Harris’s Tenacity in Public Service

Reflecting on his past interactions with Harris, Obama praised her relentless pursuit of justice during her tenure as California’s Attorney General. "As the attorney general of the most populous state in the country, she fought big banks and for-profit colleges," Obama recalled. "After the home mortgage crisis, she pushed me and my administration hard to make sure homeowners got a big settlement. Didn’t matter that I was a Democrat. Didn’t matter that she had knocked on doors for my campaign — she was going to fight to get as much relief as possible for the families who deserved it."

Praising Tim Walz as Harris's Running Mate

Obama also lauded Tim Walz, Harris's running mate, as an ideal partner for her in the White House. "I love this guy," Obama said. "Tim is the kind of person who should be in politics. Born in a small town, served his country, taught kids, coached football, took care of his neighbors, he knows who he is and he knows what’s important."

Obama's remarks captured the essence of Walz’s authenticity, adding, "You can tell those flannel shirts he wears don’t come from some political consultant. They come from his closet and they have been through some stuff."
