New Delhi: Minority Hindu teachers in Bangladesh are increasingly facing pressure and intimidation, with many being forced to resign from their positions in government institutions. Since August 5, approximately 50 Hindu educators have been coerced into leaving their jobs amid a climate of fear and insecurity. One of the most high-profile cases involves Dr. Chandranath Poddar, a professor in the Mathematics Department at Dhaka University, who was forced to resign by students.
Numerous Hindu teachers have resigned after being harassed at their homes or workplaces. In a striking example, Shukla Roy, the Principal of Government Bakarganj College, was made to submit her resignation by writing the words "I resign" on a blank sheet of paper. The Bangladesh Chhatra Aikya Parishad, a student organization connected to the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Aikya Parishad, revealed these developments during a press conference on Saturday. A list of resigned teachers was shared, shedding light on the alarming trend.

Sanjoy Kumar Mukherjee, Associate Professor of Public Administration and Governance Studies at Kazi Nazrul University, described his experience: "Dada, I was forced to resign from my position as Proctor and Head of Department. We are feeling very insecure at this time." The situation has become increasingly grave, with teachers avoiding campuses due to fear of retaliation, while others are facing humiliation in their own homes.
The wave of forced resignations has affected Hindu teachers across various institutions, including high-ranking positions in prominent universities. Some of the notable names include:
The forced resignations have affected positions from vice-chancellors and principals to assistant professors and department heads, as jihadi groups continue to exert pressure on Hindu educators in the country.
The situation for Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh has worsened in recent years. Taslima Nasreen, an exiled Bangladeshi writer, recently posted on X, formerly Twitter, highlighting the grim situation: "Teachers are being forced to resign. Journalists, ministers, and former government officials are being killed, tortured, and jailed. Terrorism is bringing industries to power while the shrines of Sufi Muslims are being demolished."
bnp, jamate islami and all islamic & jihadi organizations together with students harassing & killing awami party people, forcing teachers to resign, demolishing mazars, filing false cases against pro-Hasina journos. no action is taken against people who are committing crimes.

The Hindu community continues to face increasing threats, with no signs of the crisis abating. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus remains silent on the matter, even as the country’s minorities face escalating violence and discrimination.
