Four people including the pilot were killed after a light plane crashed in a rural area of the New South Wales state of Australia. The four victims included one adult and 3 children who were on board during the crash, police said late on Friday.

The light plane, named the Cirrus SR22 took off from the national capital Canberra and crashed near Queanbeyan in south-eastern New South Wales, roughly 290 kilometres (180 miles) from Sydney. Police rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the crash.

The plane wreck was found plane alight in a paddock at Gundaroo on the western edge of Lake George about 35km north of Queanbeyan. The police and rural fire service officers extinguished the blaze but the five-seater Cirrus was destroyed.

The identities of the deceased victim are yet to be identified by the police
