Trump, Zelensky
International News. US President Donald Trump has accused Ukrainian President Voldomir Zelensky of not being 'grateful' for receiving billions of dollars from the US under the previous Biden administration. Trump compared Zelensky receiving US aid worth $350 billion after Russia invaded Ukraine to 'taking candy from a baby'. The interview comes at a time when bitterness between the US and Ukraine has increased in recent weeks after a heated meeting in the Oval Office on February 28, which led to the US President suspending all military aid to Ukraine. However, Zelensky has since apologized to President Trump.
Trump said he did not think Zelensky was grateful for the $350 billion the US had given Ukraine since Russia's invasion in February 2022. Calling the Ukrainian president a smart and tough guy, Trump said Zelensky "took money out of this country under Biden like he was taking candy from a child. It was much easier with that same attitude."
When asked about his stance on Russia, Trump claimed that he has been very tough with Moscow. He said, "I stopped the Russian pipeline, I am the person who imposed sanctions on Russia, I am the person who gave the Javelins, but I have a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. No one has been tougher on Russia than Donald Trump and he knows it." Let us tell you that during his first term in 2019, Trump approved sanctions on Russian gas pipelines, which was a sea pipeline that allowed Russia to increase gas exports to Germany. The US President further said that if he were the President in 2022, Russia would not have invaded Ukraine. He also said that if he were in the White House, other global incidents like the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 would not have happened.
When asked about the US-Ukraine mineral deal, which was the original purpose of Trump and Zelensky's Oval Office meeting, and whether it would still go forward, Trump said he thought so.Trump's interview comes a day after US billionaire Elon Musk warned on Sunday that Kiev's entire front line of defence, which has been crucial in maintaining military communications, could collapse if it shut down its Starlink satellite internet system.
