Foxconn, an Apple Inc supplier, has announced plans to invest $500 million in establishing manufacturing plants in Telangana, a southern state in India. This investment is expected to generate 25,000 job opportunities in the initial phase, according to K. T. Rama Rao, the state’s IT minister.

In March, Reuters reported that Foxconn had secured a contract from Apple to produce AirPods and had intentions to construct a factory in India specifically for manufacturing these products.

To mitigate the impact of COVID-related disruptions and geopolitical tensions, Apple has been relocating its production from China. This strategic move aims to reduce dependence on China for manufacturing new iPhones and other devices while minimising potential risks to its business amid the Beijing-Washington tensions.
