A shocking case of alleged sexual assault has emerged in London involving a woman's first ever Airbnb guest. The incident occurred in May 2021 in Croydon, where a 43-year-old man named Diego Dellarovere was accused of raping his host after she rented out a room to him.

According to the woman's report to police, Dellarovere had booked the room despite living only 12 miles away, which she found odd. After pouring them both some wine, she said Dellarovere began touching her legs and offered to give her a massage while putting on spa music. The woman claims he then sexually assaulted and raped her.

After the alleged attack, the traumatized woman barricaded herself in her bedroom with a kitchen knife, her dog and cat. She said Dellarovere returned around 2am and slept in the spare room. In the morning before leaving, he allegedly told her "I'll leave a good review."

Having never rented out a room before, the woman initially considered only reporting the incident to Airbnb. However, she decided to go to the police, saying "I want his name to be flagged" in case he tries to assault someone else.

The accused man has denied raping or sexually assaulting the woman. The shocking allegations though highlight potential risks for homeowners using rental platforms like Airbnb.

Sadly, what was meant to be this woman's first positive hosting experience became a traumatic nightmare. The case underscores the need for robust safety measures to protect both guests and hosts using these services.
