An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck western Afghanistan on Wednesday, right after the Middle Eastern nation was hit by similar tremors last Saturday that killed more than 4000. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km at around 05:10 am local time (00:40 GMT) and was about 29 kilometres outside the capital of Herat province

The residents were still in shock from the previous earthquake when this quake further intensified the situation. There has not been any report of casualties or damage from the tremor as of now.

Afghanistan earthquake

The earthquake on Saturday struck the hit Afgahnistan’s Zindajan, a rural district some 40km (25 miles) from Herat city. Thousands of survivors of this natural calamity are now bracing for a cold and harsh upcoming winter.

Volunteers have been on their toes since Saturday when the 6.3 earthquake destroyed many lives and properties in the region. They are now in the last-ditch attempts to find survivors from the earlier series of earthquakes, which levelled entire villages and affected more than 12,000 people, WHO said in a report.

The report also says that the hardest hit villages are Naieb Rafi, Mahal Wardakah, Kushk, Sia Aab, Kajkal and Nawabad in Zindajan district, where 100 per cent of houses have been destroyed.
