Talks around a potential partnership that would see electric vehicles from the Adani Group integrated into Uber's ride-hailing platform were revealed to have taken place during a meeting between billionaire Gautam Adani and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.
The collaboration proposed bringing Uber under the umbrella of Adani One - a services platform launched in 2022 that offers flight bookings, holiday packages and taxi services. Integrating Uber would mark a significant expansion of its transport vertical.
For the Ahmedabad-based Adani Group, the partnership presents an opportunity to accelerate its entrance into the electric passenger vehicle arena. Whilst already present in the commercial EV space with buses, coaches and trucks, it has outlined ambitions in the consumer segment. Adani would purchase and brand vehicles to supply into Uber's network.
The group recently submitted bids for government contracts to supply over 3,600 electric buses, underlining its commitments in the e-mobility domain.
Equally, Uber has defined goals to fully transition into a zero-emission mobility provider across the globe before 2040. An Adani tie-up that sees large numbers of electric vehicles introduced through its platforms would aid this sustainability mission.
Any alliance between the corporate giants would also likely provide a significant spur to the adoption of electric four-wheelers across India. According to reports it could position Uber to have one of its largest electric fleet partnerships worldwide.
