New Delhi: India delivered a firm response to Pakistan's allegations regarding Jammu and Kashmir during the ongoing session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), emphasizing that a country with such a poor track record should refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of other nations.

India's assertive stand

Anupama Singh, India's first secretary, asserted India's position at the 55th Regular Session of the UNHRC, stating unequivocally that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India. She lamented the misuse of the council's platform by Pakistan to spread false accusations against India.

Denouncing false allegations

Singh expressed India's disappointment at the propagation of baseless allegations against the country. She emphasized the irony in Pakistan's stance, highlighting its own dismal human rights record, particularly citing the persecution of the Christian community in Jaranwala city.

Accusations against Pakistan

Drawing attention to Pakistan's support for UNSC-sanctioned terrorists, Ms. Singh accused Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism on a global scale. She emphasized India's commitment to progress and social justice despite facing unwarranted criticism from Pakistan.

Diplomatic discourse

The exchange between India and Pakistan at the UNHRC is part of a broader diplomatic dialogue between the two countries. India has consistently emphasized the importance of a terrorism-free environment for normal relations with Pakistan, as reiterated by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Looking ahead

Jaishankar underscored that Pakistan's future hinges on its actions and choices. He emphasized the need for Pakistan to address its economic challenges, including dwindling forex reserves and high inflation, for a more stable future.
