At least 500 people have died in Gaza after Israeli air strikes hit a hospital in the region on Tuesday, the Gaza authorities have said, however, Israel denied launching the attack. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Israel Defense Force’s operational systems have indicated that the strikes were conducted by Gaza terrorists.

This strike claimed the highest number of victims in any single incident in Gaza amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The Palestinian President has called this attack “a massacre” at Al-Ahli al-Arabi Hospital and accused Israel of this deadly attack.

Israel denies attack

PM Netanyahu has said these strikes in the hospital were launched by the “barbaric terrorists” in Gaza and not by Israel’s military.

Netanyahu said that intelligence from several sources revealed that Islamic Jihad was responsible for the unsuccessful rocket launch. “An analysis of IDF operational systems indicates that a barrage of rockets was fired by terrorists in Gaza, passing in close proximity to the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza at the time it was hit,” he posted on social media platform X.

Confirming the same, the spokesperson of the Israel Defense Forces posted on X, “Following an analysis by the IDF’s operational systems, a barrage of rockets was launched toward Israel, which passed in the vicinity of the hospital, when it was hit. According to intelligence information from a number of sources we have, Islamic Jihad terrorist organization is responsible for the failed rocket launch that hit the hospital.”

Gaza officials speak up

According to the Gaza civil defence chief, around 300 people were killed and a health ministry official said 500 were killed. On the other hand, Hamas claims that the blast mostly killed the displaced people in the strike, per media reports.

Israeli top authority has claimed that the rockets were fired by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group however, Islamic Jihad denied that any of its rockets were involved in the hospital blast. The Iran-backed Islamist Jihad claimed that they did not have any activity in or around Gaza City at the time.

The incident took place on the eve of US President Joe Biden’s visit to Israel, meanwhile, Russia and other Arab countries have been demanding a UN Security Council meeting as clashes erupted in the west bank.
