New Delhi: At least 40 people have been killed and 60 others wounded in an Israeli airstrike on the Mawasi area of the Gaza Strip. According to reports, the tragic incident is one of the deadliest in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, which has seen a significant escalation in violence in recent days.

Rescue team in operation

The airstrike took place amidst rising tensions, as Israel continues to target what it claims are Hamas strongholds within Gaza. Mawasi, a densely populated area, became the latest focal point of Israeli military operations. Eyewitnesses described scenes of devastation, with residential buildings reduced to rubble and families desperately searching for survivors amid the chaos.

Palestinian health authorities have warned that the death toll could rise further as rescue teams work through the night to recover those trapped beneath the debris. Many of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, and local hospitals are overwhelmed by the influx of casualties.

Call for humanitarian aid

The escalating violence in Gaza has drawn significant attention and concern from the international community, with increasing calls for an immediate de-escalation and humanitarian assistance to the affected civilians. Governments, human rights organizations, and global institutions, including the United Nations, have urged both Israel and Palestinian authorities to exercise restraint and prioritize the safety of civilians who are caught in the crossfire. Despite these efforts, diplomatic attempts to negotiate a ceasefire have been largely unsuccessful, deepening the humanitarian crisis.

The recent airstrike on Mawasi is one of many attacks as part of Israel's broader military campaign aimed at neutralizing what it calls "Hamas strongholds" within Gaza. This operation, while targeting specific groups, has resulted in extensive damage to residential areas, vital infrastructure, and public facilities. The relentless bombardment has left countless civilians displaced and has exacerbated existing shortages of food, water, medical supplies, and electricity. Humanitarian organizations have warned that Gaza’s health system is on the brink of collapse, with hospitals already overwhelmed by the sheer number of casualties.
