15 killed, over 100 injured in Bangladesh train collision

At least 15 people have been killed and over 100 people are injured in the collision of two trains near Bangladesh's capital on Monday afternoon. The accident occurred after a passenger train collided with a goods train in Bhairab Upazila, Kishoreganj. 

The accident happened when a passenger train collided with a freight train at Bhairab, about 80 kilometers from the capital Dhaka. Local media reported that hundreds of people were injured in the accident and according to local witnesses, many people were still trapped in the train.

Reports claimed that many of the injured people were lying under the damaged coaches.

Dhaka Tribune reported that Firefighter Rasel from Bhairab Bazar Fire Station confirmed the incident, which caused damage to two rear coaches of the Egarosindhur Godhuli train.

As per the reports, Responding to the accident, Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation. The death toll is expected to climb as rescue operations are ongoing, Bhairab Station Master Yusuf stated.

The number of casualties could increase, Bhairab Fire Station official Mosharraf Hossain told The Associated Press. He said rescuers and local people started a rescue operation and the bodies of at least 12 people were recovered.

Bhairab Station Master Yusuf stated, "The incident took place around 3:30 pm. The death toll is expected to rise further. Rail connectivity from Dhaka to Chittagong, Sylhet, and Kishoreganj is suspended."

Rail connectivity from Dhaka to Chittagong, Sylhet, and Kishoreganj has been suspended, and rescue operations by police and fire service personnel are ongoing at the scene. Fifteen deaths have been confirmed at the time of filing this report.
