Armed men in Nigeria killed at least eight people and abducted around 60 people in two communities of northwest Zamfara state, residents on Sunday. According to a local traditional leader, the fresh incident happened two days after armed men kidnapped dozens from a university in the state.

Apart from this, in the northeast of the country suspected Islamist insurgents attacked a convoy of vehicles under military escort, which killed two soldiers and four civilians. According to the police officials, one of the motorists witnessed the incident. The attackers also set five vehicles to ablaze and drove off with one truck.

However, President Bola Tinubu has not given any statement on how he will tackle widespread insecurity. His economic reforms, including the removal of a costly fuel subsidy and freeing the naira currency, have increased the cost of leaving, angering citizens.

meanwhile, the residents of the area said gunmen early on Sunday tried to attack a forward army base in a rural Magami community of Zamfara, but were pushed back. Zamfara is one of the states, which is worstly affected by kidnappings for ransom by armed gangs known locally as bandits.

One of a traditional leader who declined to be named due to security reasons informed that gunmen in three groups attacked the army base and the communities of Magami and Kabasa. They kidnapped at least 60 people, mostly women and children, were kidnapped.
