The Israeli government has rejected the call for a ceasefire with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu comparing the attack on Israel by Hamas to the attacks on Pearl Harbour and 9/11 on Monday. The Israeli military continues with their ground offence against the Palestinian militant group along with aerial bombardments in response to the October 7 terror attack.

According to media reports, he said "Just as the United States would not agree to a ceasefire after the bombing of Pearl Harbor or the terrorist attack of 9/11, Israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities with Hamas".

PM Netanyahu rejects calls for ceasefire

In a press conference, Netanyahu said “Calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism... this will not happen," he told a foreign briefing, vowing Israel would "fight until this battle is won".

Israel’s biggest ally, the United States has also objected to a ceasefire.

In the conference, he also condemned the Hamas "barbarians" for trying to destroy the "promise" of Israel's future adding that the world should not "surrender to tyranny and terror"

"Israel did not start this war. Israel did not want this war. But Israel will win this war," he added.

“After the horrific attacks of October 7, calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism, to surrender to barbarism. That will not happen,” he said.

Towards the end of the speech, Netanyahu quoted a verse from the Bible and said “The Bible says that there is a time for peace and a time for war. "This is a time for war, a war for a common future.”

“Today, we draw a line between the forces of civilisation and the forces of barbarism. It is a time for everyone to decide where they stand,” he said.

“Israel will stand against the forces of barbarism until victory. I hope and pray that civilised nations everywhere will back this fight because Israel's fight is your fight. Because if Hamas and Iran's axis of evil win, you will be their next target,” Netanyahu further added.

"That's why Israel's victory will be your victory,” he said.

Natanyahu want to resign Hamas to the dustbin of history

In the press conference, a reporter also asked him if the Israeli leader plans to resign citing that his support among the Israeli people is decreasing after the Hamas attacks.

Responding to this question Netanyahu said “The only thing that I intend to have resign is Hamas. We are going to resign them to the dustbin of history. That’s my goal. That’s my responsibility. That’s what I’m leading the country to do. This is my responsibility now.”

UN resolution of ‘Humanitarian Truce’

The UN on Friday passed a resolution with an overwhelming majority calling for a ceasefire in Israel’s war against Hamas, which the Israeli representative to the UN rejected while India abstained from voting. The resolution that was led by Jordan however, did not mention Hamas in it.

More than 1300 Israelis were killed in the surprise attack launched by Hamas on October 7 while Israel's retaliatory strike, sealing of the Gaza Strip as well as lack of communications, network and air strikes have claimed the lives of more than 8300 Palestinians till now.
