Entertainment News: Aliya Fakhri, the sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been indicted on charges of murder and arson after a tragic fire killed her ex-boyfriend, Edward Jacobs, 35, and his friend Anastasia Ettienne, 33, in Queens, New York, on November 23. Prosecutors claim that Fakhri, 43, intentionally set fire to a detached garage at Jacobs' home, leading to the deaths of the two victims. Fakhri is accused of resorting to arson after Jacobs rejected her efforts to reconcile their relationship, which had ended over a year ago.

Charges and Indictment Details: Malicious Intent Alleged

Fakhri faces serious charges, including four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder, and arson. Prosecutors allege that she arrived at the property early in the morning, around 6:20 a.m., and was heard shouting, 'You’re all going to die today,' before setting the fire. The blaze tragically trapped both Jacobs and Ettienne, who attempted to rescue him but ultimately succumbed to smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz condemned Fakhri’s actions as 'malicious,' emphasizing that Fakhri intentionally set the fire that led to the victims' deaths.

Rejection and Revenge: The Alleged Motive Behind the Attack

Jacobs’ mother, Janet, revealed that her son had been trying to distance himself  from Fakhri after ending their relationship over a year ago. Despite his repeated attempts to reject her advances, Fakhri allegedly could not accept the breakup. Prosecutors suggest that this rejection led to her violent actions and the deadly fire. Jacobs’ mother described how her son had made it clear that he wanted nothing more to do with Fakhri but was unable to deter her.

Fakhri's mother has expressed disbelief at her daughter's involvement in the fatal fire, insisting that Fakhri was a caring person who would never resort to violence. She has publicly defended her daughter’s character, claiming she could not fathom her being capable of such an act. The case has caused significant tension within the family, with starkly differing views on Fakhri’s actions. Fakhri, who is currently being held at Rikers Island, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. If convicted of the most serious charges, she faces a potential life sentence in prison. Her next court appearance is scheduled for December 9, where further legal proceedings will take place.
