We all have memories of some films or some particular film scenes that eventually bring smile on our face irrespective of where we are, in what mood and in what company. These films and actors are etched in our hearts forever and make us smile every time we watch them perform. Be it the same old scenes or their newer performances, we love them in every avatar and love to laugh with them. Today, as the world observes the ‘Laughter Day’, The Top Indian News talks about some of the new-age actors who have scribbled a different story altogether in the world of comedy.

1. Varun Sharma

The ‘Fukrey’ actor is most known for portraying the character of ‘Choocha’ in the film. Varun Sharma rose to fame after his first film – ‘Fukrey’ released in 2013. A comedy-drama, this Mrighdeep Singh directorial featured other actors like Ali Fazal, Pulkit Samrat, Richa Chaddha and Pankaj Tripathi. Varun shone in this commercially successful film and managed to carve a place of his own in people’s hearts. Post Fukrey, Sharma was seen in some famous films like Dolly Ki Doli, Dilwale, Raabta, Fukrey Returns, Arjun Patiala, Khandaani Shafakhana, Chhichhore, Roohi Afza and most recently in Cirkus.

Even after so many years in the industry, people fondly address him as ‘Choocha’ and ‘Sexa’ (his character’s name in Chhichhore).

2. Deepak Dobriyal

Recipient of a Filmfare Award, we know Deepak Dobriyal mostly because of his characters in critically acclaimed films – Omkara, Tanu Weds Manu, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Hindi Medium and Angrezi Medium. He was also seen in Shaurya, Chor Chor Super Chor and Dabangg 2.

Dobriyal started his career in acting from theatre with Arvind Gaur. Some of his most famous plays feature Tuglaq, Andha Yug, Rakt Kalyan, Court Martial, The Good Person of Szechwan, Ek Mamooli Aadmi among many others.

3. Sunil Grover

Now a known name in the industry, Sunil Grover started his acting career from Punjabi television. In the Hindi entertainment industry, the actor got popularity after he essayed the character of ‘Gutthi’ in Comedy Nights With Kapil. His popularity grew even more when he portrayed other characters like Dr Mashhoor Gulati and that of Rinku Devi on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’.

His tryst with films started with the 1998 film Pyar To Hona Hi Tha. He thereafter went on to perform in some famous films like Gabbar Is Back, Main Hoon Na, Insan, Ghajini, Dev.D, Baaghi, The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Bharat. He was recently seen in Amitabh Bachchan starrer Goodbye.

Sunil is known for mimicking Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in various television shows and on distinguished award functions. He was also critically acclaimed for his role of Sonu Singh in the thriller web-series Sunflower. The actor shed more than eight kgs for the role.

4. Arshad Warsi

Known for his down-to-earth demeanour and his ‘family-man’ image, Arshad Warsi is most known for his portrayal of comic characters in films like Munnabhai MBBS, Golmaal and Jolly LLB. Warsi started his career in the entertainment industry as an assistant director to Mahesh Bhatt in 1987 movie Kaash. Thereafter, he tried his hands in dancing and choreographed the title song of Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. He debuted in acting with Tere Mere Sapne which was then followed by films like Hero Hindustani, Hogi Pyar Ki Jeet et al. However, Warsi stuck a blockbuster success with Sanjay Dutt starrer Munnabhai MBBS in 2003. Thereafter in 2006, Warsi starred in Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal. Post this, he also acted in films like Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, Krazzy 4, Zila Ghaziabad, Hum Tum Aur Ghost among others but the success seen by his comic films was not witnessed by any other film of different genre.

5. Kartik Aaryan

Best known for essaying the character of Rajat aka ‘Rajjo’ in the movie Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Kartik Aaryan has come far and is now playing some great roles in Indian films. After pursuing engineering, Kartik made his way towards the film industry and went on to be part of successful comic dramas such as Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Luka Chuppi, Pati, Patni Aur Woh, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Love Aaj Kal, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Guest Iin London and was recently seen in Shehzada. He is also credited to have done some critically acclaimed films like Freddy and Dhamaka.

6. Rajkummar Rao

After having done more than 30 films now, Rajkummar is known for his work in all genres of entertainment, let alone comedy. Besides serious films like Shahid and Aligarh, Rao is famous for essaying interestingly funny characters in films – Stree, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Ludo, Monia, O My Darling and Badhaai Do.

7. Vadivelu

Vadivelu is popularly called as Vaigai Puyal and has acted in several South Indian films as a comedian. Mostly popular for slapstick comedy in the South Indian entertainment industry, He has went on to win Best Comedian award for Chandramukhi. He also earned accolades for films like Kaalam Maari Pochu and Kathavarayan. Vaadivelu is known for assisting directors by providing his own input and even improvising on the set. The hallmark of his comedy is self-deprecation.

8. Brahmanandam

One of the most touted comedians in the South Indian film industry, Brahmanandam has won hearts of people across the world. A Guinness World Record holder, he has also been awarded Padma Shri by the Central Government of India for his brilliant performances in various movies.

9. Santhanam

Santhanam started as a TV actor and now is a sought-after comic artist across the South Indian entertainment world. He rose to fame thorough his performances in STAR Vijay’s Lollu Sabha wherein he used to enact lead roles in spoofs of famous Tamil Films. His work in Sachien and Polladhavan, along with M. Rajesh’s comic trilogy of Siva Manasula Sakthi, Boss Engira Bhaskaran and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, is unforgettable.
