Entertainment News: In a dazzling display of high fashion, Sonam Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have both recently sported Gaurav Gupta's signature breastplate design, sparking a couture-coded fashion face-off. From Alia Bhatt's metallic runway debut to Sonam Kapoor's black and gold ballgown twist, the battle of the breastplates is on as both Bollywood stars put their spin on Gaurav Gupta's sculptural designs, leaving fashion enthusiasts to crown the ultimate golden goddess.
Sonam's Golden Twist on a Familiar Silhouette
Sonam Kapoor, known for her daring fashion choices, recently graced an event in a custom Gaurav Gupta ensemble styled by Rhea Kapoor. The outfit featured a golden breastplate with frozen drip details, paired with a black ballgown midi skirt and a structured loop at the waist. With soft curls, nude makeup, and gold-tinted nails, Kapoor's look was a blend of classic elegance and avant-garde design.
Alia Bhatt first debuted the breastplate design months earlier at the L’Oréal Paris - Le Defilé show in September 2024. Styled by Payal Kapadia, Bhatt wore a metal-cast silver breastplate adorned with a swan's head interwoven with a serpent's body, paired with black sharara trousers. Oversized geometric hoops, wet hair, and glossy, silver-tinted makeup completed her edgy runway look.
The similar breastplate designs, though in different colors, have inevitably led to comparisons. While Kapoor's golden breastplate and ballgown skirt exuded a romantic, princess-like vibe, Bhatt's silver version with sharara trousers had a more futuristic and bold aesthetic. Fashion critics and fans are now weighing in on who wore the design better, sparking a "couture-coded fashion face-off".
Gaurav Gupta is known for his sculptural and avant-garde designs, and the breastplate has become one of his signature pieces. The ribbed and structured loop seen in Kapoor's outfit is also a house staple for the designer. His creations often blend traditional Indian craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.
