Who is Momal Sheikh? Pak actress claiming they are Kapoor’s of Lollywood

Pakistani actress Momal Sheikh, who debuted in Bollywood with Sonam Kapoor's film Happy Bhag Jayegi in 2016, recently compared her family’s influence in Pakistani showbiz to that of Bollywood’s Kapoor family. In a candid interview on After Hours with Ushna Shah, Momal shed light on how several members of her family have achieved success and fame, mirroring the legacy of the Kapoors in Bollywood.

'We are the Sheikh family of Lollywood'

When Ushna remarked that Momal’s family is the closest equivalent to the Kapoors in Pakistan, Momal humorously agreed, saying, "Yes, if you look at Behroze uncle and Saleem uncle’s families, we are the Kapoors of Pakistan. We are the Sheikhs, and Behroze uncle is Sabzwari. He’s married to Safeena phuppo, who is my father’s sister. My father and uncle Salim are brothers, and just like the Kapoors, we are the Sheikh family of Lollywood.”

‘Baba does not make any phone calls for me’

However, Momal clarified that, unlike the Kapoors, her father and brother do not engage in nepotism. “Baba doesn’t make any phone calls for me. The Kapoors might say, ‘We are the Kapoors’ and have a nepo-culture, but here it doesn’t work like that,” she stated. She further explained that although she occasionally pressured her father to help, he insisted she forge her own path, a sentiment shared by her brother Shahzad Sheikh.

Momal is the daughter of veteran Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh, who has appeared in Bollywood films such as Om Shanti Om and Namastey London. Her brother is popular TV actor Shahzad Sheikh, and she is also the niece of renowned actors Behroze Sabzwari and Saleem Sheikh. Momal is married to businessman Nader Nawaz and has two children.
