The Indian adaptation of the famous ‘The Archies’ comic, directed by Zoya Akhtar, released its first song on Thursday. Following the release of the song, Zoya took to Instagram and shared a snippet of the film’s song track and wrote “This is my story, #Sunoh! You can’t ignore me, sunoh! First song from #TheArchies out now!”

The song has been titled Sunoh and in the video we can get a glimpse into the lives of the characters from the film that has been played by Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Vedang Raina, and Yuvraj Menda. The song has been created by Ankur Tewari and The Islanders. Apart from this, the song’s lyrics were written by Javed Akhtar and Dot. It has been performed by Tejas Menon and Shivam Mahadevan.

Commenting on the song, lyricist Javed Akhtar said that “writing Sunoh was like unlocking a time capsule of the 1960s’ rock and roll era.” He also added that the song bridges the past and present and celebrates the “enduring essence of this iconic period through melody and lyrics”

Meanwhile, director Zoya Akhtar said that they “wanted to encapsulate the teenage soul of the 60’s”. While adding that Archies was a celebration of that era she said “The song had to evoke simplicity, nostalgia, but also a rebellion and idealism that could resonate with the Gen-Z today.”

‘The Archies’

The Archie is a coming-of-age musical film about the lives of the teenagers in the 1960s. Adapted from the famous comic with the same title, the movie takes its viewers on a nostalgia trip to the era of ‘rock and roll’ of the 1960s, set in the fictional town of Riverdale.

The film has been produced by Netflix India, Tiger Baby, Archie Comics and Graphic India. The movie will have a worldwide release on December 7, 2023, on the OTT platform Netflix.
