Goa CM’s statement on ‘Chhaava’

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made the announcement on Wednesday via a post on X, expressing his admiration for the film's portrayal of history. "It gives me great pleasure to announce that the movie Chhaava, based on the life and sacrifice of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, will be tax-free in Goa," Sawant stated. He emphasized that the film, which showcases the valor and courage of the second Chhatrapati of the Hindavi Swarajya, serves as an inspiration for all. "His heroic resistance against the Mughals and the Portuguese stands as a testament to his indomitable spirit," he added.

Madhya Pradesh follows suit

Goa is not the only state to extend tax exemption to Chhaava. On the same day, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also declared the film tax-free in his state. This announcement coincided with the 395th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the father of Chhatrapati Sambhaji.

About ‘Chhaava’ – A cinematic tribute to Maratha history

Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava stars Vicky Kaushal in the titular role, alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna. The film is an adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant and is produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. The biopic has garnered immense appreciation from both audiences and critics for its gripping narrative and powerful performances. Released on February 14, Chhaava is on its way to becoming the first Bollywood movie of 2025 to cross the ₹200-crore mark. It has already surpassed the ₹112-crore earnings of Sky Force, making it the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year. With Chhaava resonating strongly with viewers, its tax-free status in multiple states is expected to further boost its box office collections while reinforcing its cultural and historical significance.
