Kavita Chaudhary, renowned for her role in the popular TV show Udaan, has passed away at the age of 67. She reportedly succumbed to cardiac arrest at Parvati Devi Hospital in Amritsar on Thursday, February 15.
Chaudhary had previously battled cancer, according to Suchitra Verma, a close friend and mentee of Kavita Chaudhary. Verma revealed that Kavita had undergone chemotherapy and was visibly in pain. Expressing her grief, Verma lamented not being able to meet Kavita before her demise and paid a heartfelt tribute to her mentor on Instagram, describing her as "a beacon of strength, inspiration, and grace."
Anang Desai, Kavita's batchmate at the National School of Drama (NSD), expressed sorrow over her passing, recalling their time together during their training at NSD alongside other notable actors like Satish Kaushik, Anupam Kher, and Govind Namdev.
Hailing from Amritsar, Kavita Chaudhary gained fame for her portrayal of IPS officer Kalyani Singh in Udaan, a show she also wrote and directed. The series, inspired by the life of her sister Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, garnered attention for its depiction of female IPS officers.
Chaudhary's contributions extended beyond Udaan, as she went on to produce shows like Your Honour and IPS Diaries. She was also remembered for her role as Lalitaji in the iconic Surf advertisements of the 1980s and 1990s, where she portrayed a discerning and intelligent housewife.
Udaan, with its re-telecast on Doordarshan during the pandemic, was hailed as an inspirational show by Smriti Irani, highlighting Kavita Chaudhary's lasting impact on Indian television.
