Veteran Marathi actor-director Ravindra Mahajani was found dead in a rented apartment in Talegaon Dabhade area near Maharashtra‘s Pune city, said the police.

Marathi actor Ravindra Mahajani found dead in his apartment 

Reportedly, the actor’s body was recovered on Friday evening (July 14). However, it is suspected that the 77-year-old Yesteryear actor died around three days ago, said the police.

A senior official of Talegaon Dabhade police station said, “We received a call from the neighbours of the flat, where Mahajani was staying alone, informing us about a foul odour emanating from his house. We went to the spot and broke open the door of the flat, where he was found dead.”

“It is suspected that he died three days ago,” he said.

The official also said that the actor, who owns a house in Mumbai, was rising in Talegaon Dabhade for the last eight months.

After his body was found in his apartment, his mortal remains were sent to a hospital for autopsy, the police said.

Ravindra Mahajani acted in several renowned Marathi films from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. Some of his notable films as an actor include ‘Mumbaicha Fauzdar’, ‘Zunj’ and ‘Kalat Nakalat’. The actor’s son Fashmeer Mahajani is also an actor and best known for his work in the Marathi film industry.

CM Shinde paid tribute to his demise 

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde extended his condolences on Mahajani’s death. Taking it to Twitter, CM wrote, “Veteran Marathi actor Ravindra Mahajani, who ruled the hearts of the audience through his impressive acting skills, has passed away. May God give eternal peace to his soul and give strength to the Mahajani family to recover from this grief. A heartfelt tribute.”

Moreover, NCP’s chief, Sharad Pawar also paid tribute to the actor, saying “We share the grief of the Mahajani family. A heartfelt tribute to Ravindra Mahajani.”
