Veteran filmmaker KG George passed away at 77 on Sunday. The filmmaker suffered from a stroke a few years ago which led to his health deteriorating since then and unfortunately breathed his last on Sunday, September 24, as per media reports.

According to sources, George’s funeral is likely to take place on Tuesday.

Several celebrities and politicians took to social media to express their grief at the passing of the remarkable filmmaker and paid their tributes.

Reactions to KG George’s passing

The Chief Minister of Kerala also spoke on the veteran filmmaker’s passing and said KG George was a filmmaker who won a place in the hearts of the audience by dealing with socially responsible issues. His unique method was to analyze the structure of society and the structure of individual minds.”

“KG George made interventions that blurred the distinction between artistic cinema and commercial cinema. That in turn raised the quality and enjoyment level of the movie remarkably. He is the director of many memorable movies,” he condoled.

Actor Mammooty, who who worked with KG George in several films, such as Mela (1980), and Yavanika (1982), took to Facebook and wrote, “One more person, who was close to the heart, says goodbye, Condolences George Sir.”

Swaroop Kaimal on X (formerly Twitter) condoled the death of the late filmmaker and wrote, “Thank you Sir, for everything.”

Along with this, actor Prithviraj Sukumaran also paid his heartfelt condolences to the filmmaker on Instagram

He wrote “Rest in peace sir! One of the finest filmmakers of the country bids adieu.”

Films by KG George

KG George received the Kerala State Film Awards for his movies Yavanika, Swapnadanam, Adaminte Vaariyellu and Irakal.

Panchavadi Palam directed by him in 1984 is considered one of the best political satire films in Malayalam cinema.

Some of his other noteworthy films include Ulkatal(1978), Mela (1980), Kolangal (1981), Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback (1983), and Vyamoham (1978) to name a few.
