Veteran actress and Bollywood icon Waheeda Rehman is set to be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest film honour. This announcement was made by the Information and Broadcast Minister, Anurag Thakur on social media platforms where he said that veteran actress Waheeda Rahman has been chosen for this year’s Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award.
Anurag Thakur took to ‘X’ where he wrote, “I feel an immense sense of happiness and honour in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is being bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema.”
“Waheeda ji has been critically acclaimed for her roles in Hindi films, prominent among them, Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke Phool, Chaudhavi Ka Chand, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi and several others,” he said.
He also wrote about the illustrious career the actress left behind for generations to see and wrote “In her career spanning over 5 decades, she has essayed her roles with extreme finesse, leading to a National Film Award for her role as a clanswoman in the film Reshma and Shera. A Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee, Waheeda ji has exemplified dedication, commitment and the strength of a Bharatiya Nari who can achieve the highest level of professional excellence with her hardwork”

Thakur further spoke about the historic women’s bill passed in the parliament last week calling this award to Waheeda Rahman “a fitting tribute to one of the leading ladies of Indian Cinema” and congratulating her on this achievement.
Waheeda Rahman is one of the most celebrated veteran actresses of Indian Cinema and is known for her remarkable performances in movies like ‘Guide,’ ‘Pyaasa,’ ‘Khamoshi’, ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool,’ and ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chaand.’
Throughout her remarkable career, Waheeda has achieved many accolades for her performances including the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri along with three Filmfare awards for her outstanding contributions to the film industry.
Waheeda, born on 3 February 1938, has acted in more than 90 movies in a career spanning over five decades and made her debut as a dancer in the Tamil film, ‘Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum’. Later she rose to fame after collaborating with Guru Dutt in several movies.
