The highly anticipated sci-fi action film ‘Venom 3’, starring the talented Tom Hardy in the lead role, finally has an official release date. Fans can mark their calendars for July 12, 2024, as the day they get to witness the next instalment of the thrilling franchise on the big screen.

US-based media outlet Variety shared that the threequel in the ‘Venom’ franchise is currently untitled.

It’s worth noting that Tom Hardy’s previous two films, ‘Venom’ (2018) and ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ (2021), both made their debuts in early October. However, this time, Sony has strategically positioned ‘Venom 3’ in between two major releases: Disney’s ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ (July 5, 2024) and Universal’s ‘Twisters’ (July 19, 2024).

Sony confirmed production for ‘Venom 3’ during the CinemaCon in 2022, delighting fans of the symbiotic superhero. The first ‘Venom’ film was a massive success, grossing an impressive $856 million worldwide. Although ‘Let There Be Carnage’ faced challenges due to the pandemic, it still managed to earn $502 million globally.

Tom Hardy’s return as Eddie Brock in ‘Venom 3’ is highly anticipated, especially since the lead actor signed up for three movies back in 2018. The movie will see the return of Kelly Marcel as the screenwriter and director.

Despite the script already being in development since early 2022 and filming beginning on early June 2023, production has been temporarily halted due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike affecting Hollywood. However, filming is expected to resume soon and will take place in London and Spain, among other places.

Sony reveals release date for Bad Boys, removes Spider-Man sequel

In addition to the exciting ‘Venom 3’ announcement, Sony Pictures revealed plans for the fourth instalment of the beloved ‘Bad Boys’ franchise. Starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the yet-to-be-titled sequel is set to hit theatres on June 14, 2024, coinciding with Father’s Day weekend. However, this release date places the action-packed movie in direct competition with Disney and Pixar’s ‘Inside Out 2’.

Sony made several other significant adjustments to their release calendar. ‘Kraven the Hunter’ and a ‘Ghostbusters’ sequel were pushed back to 2024, while ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ was removed from the schedule, as reported by Variety.

Looking back at the success of the ‘Bad Boys’ franchise, the 2003 sequel ‘Bad Boys II’ grossed an impressive $273 million worldwide, while the first ‘Bad Boys’ movie raked in $141 million. However, ‘Bad Boys for Life’ managed to surpass the combined earnings of the first two films.
