Yami Gautam Dhar (born 28 November 1988) is an Indian actress best known for her work in Hindi films. She rose to fame after doing a few commercials for Fair & Lovely and began her acting career in television shows, followed by South Indian films and eventually rose to Bollywood.
Gautam’s first success was starring in TV serials like Chand Ke Paar Chalo 2008 – 2009 and Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam 2009-2010, after which she went on to star in numerous Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. It was her highly acclaimed debut role in a Hindi film in the critically and commercially successful satirical romantic comedy Vicky Donor 2012 that brought her greater recognition and fame.
Yami was 20 when she came to Mumbai to pursue a film career. She made her TV debut in Chand Ke Paar Chalo. She also played her most notable role on television in Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam, which aired on Colours. She has enrolled herself in the reality shows like Meethi Choori No 1 and Kitchen Champion Season 1.
After debuting in a lead role in the Kannada film Ullasa Utsaha 2009, Gautam made her Bollywood debut in a lead role in the romantic comedy Vicky Donor (2012) directed by Shoojit Sircar. Alongside debutant Ayushmann Khurrana, Annu Kapoor and Dolly Ahluwalia, she played Ashima Roy, a Bengali woman who falls in love with the leading man, a Punjabi from the Arora family, and learns about his past after marriage. The film, which was the production debut of Bollywood actor John Abraham, received positive reviews from critics and proved to be a huge commercial success and one of the highest-grossing films of the year, grossing 645 million, US Dollars 3.9 million worldwide. For her debut, Yami received critical acclaim and several awards and nominations, including the Best Female Debut trophy along with Ileana D’Cruz for Barfi at the Zee Cine Awards and a nomination in the same category in 58th Filmfare Awards.
