The Supreme Court on Tuesday turned down the petition seeking the stay on ‘The Kerala Story’, starring Adah Sharma. The petitioner said that the movie has the ‘worst kind of hate speech’ and ‘audio-visual propaganda.’ The bench observed that the picture had already received the censor board’s approval and that the petitioners should instead challenge the film’s certification before the appropriate body.

Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna’s panel ruled that the request to stop the film’s release cannot be clubbed with other instances of hate speech since film screenings follow a separate procedure.

The bench informed the petitioner that they cannot tag it with hate speech and asked them to move the concerned high court first. Although Kapil Sibal asked the bench to reconsider its views, the bench retorted and said, “The film has gone through a process of certification. Unless they challenge the certification, the bench cannot do anything.”
